Cinderella’s glass shoes by Louboutin

Louboutin has been invited by Disney to re-imagine Cinderella’s famous slipper in honor of Disney’s global release of the classic masterpiece Cinderella Diamond Edition on Blu-ray this Fall. He has designed a shoe decorated with lace, little crystals and butterflies. Perfect for a fairytale.

I’ve always admired Walt Disney’s work, his first movies were authentic masterpieces. I read his biography by Leonard Mosley, titled «Disney’s World» a couple of years ago. I found the book in 8 y 1/2, one of the best bookshops about cinema in Madrid. The book was very old and it had already been read, but I bought it anyway because it seemed really interesting, and it was. Walt Disney put all his efforts in what he believed in, he even sold his car to add sound to one of his first animated short films! (Steamboat Willie, watch it here). At the beginning it wasn’t easy, in fact, his studio had financial problems when Cinderella was released. But he didn’t desist. He hired the best animators and took care of every detail, he always wanted the best. Next time you watch Snow White, for example, look at the characters’ expressions. They are priceless!

Going back to Cinderella’s shoe: I received the press kit that contained sketches of the shoe by Louboutin and sketches from the movie. They are a work of art, I’m thinking about framing them and hanging them on my wall.

Here you have some facts about Cinderella that you maybe didn’t know:
– The name of the Prince is never mentioned on the film. “Prince Charming” is never used either.
– “Cinderella” received three Oscar nominations in 1951
– It was one of the highest grossing films of 1950 with more than $4 million at the box office
– Walt Disney began thinking about the story in 1922, but the animation techniques he needed were too complex at that time.
– It was released at a very poor period for the studios. If the film had been a failure, they would have had to shut the studios down.
– The transformation of Cinderella’s torn dress to that of the white ball gown was considered to be Walt Disney’s favorite piece of animation.
– Cinderella loses her shoe three times in the film: when she delivers the breakfast trays, when she is running from the ball, and walking down the steps with the Prince.
– The dress that Cinderella wears in the film is White, but the dress is blue on the cover of the dvd, in posters, drawings…
– The film cost $3 million to make.

 —————–
