Blue Jasmine is the latest film written and directed by Woody Allen. The main star is Cate Blanchett, who, judging by the trailer, has done one of the best performances of her career. Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard and Sally Hawkins are the other actors in the film. The movie tells the story of Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), an elegant New York socialite that moves into her sister Ginger’s (Sally Hawkins) modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again after her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin).
Fashion, luxury and appearance is one of the main points of Cate’s character. The Fendi and Jimmy Choo boutiques on the Fifth Avenue are shown in the NY sequences as a comparison to her sister’s life in San Francisco. Jasmine used to be an Upper East Sider and privileged woman, but now she «has lost her charge account to Prada, she lost her gold card, and her duplex on Fifth Avenue», as Woody Allen’s words. Luckily, she packs some of her best pieces to go to San Francisco, such as the Birkin, her Chanel 2.55 bag, the haute couture jackets, and the jewellery, even though she’s not attending the Manhattan’s jet set dinners. Costume designer Suzy Benziger has managed to portray a conservative and elegant woman thanks to tweed jackets, pearls, pencil skirts and golden touches.
Suzy Benziger also worked with Woody Allen in Whatever works, Celebrity (great costume design), and Deconstructing Harry.
The movie looks great, I can’t wait to see it! It premiers on July 26th in the US and on November 22th in Spain.

Blue Jasmine es la nueva película escrita y dirigida por Woody Allen. La protagonista es Cate Blanchett, quien a juzgar por el trailer ha interpretado uno de los mejores papeles de su carrera. Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard y Sally Hawkins la acompañan en el reparto. El film narra la historia de Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), una elegante socialite de Nueva York que se muda a la modesta casa de su hermana Ginger (Sally Hawkins) en San Francisco para intentar recuperarse de una crisis en su vida y su matrimonio con un millonario hombre de negocios (Alec Baldwin).
La moda, el lujo y la apariencia es uno de los principales puntos del personaje de Cate y también de la película en general. Aparecen las boutiques de Jimmy Choo y Fendi de Fifth Avenue en las escenas de Nueva York, usándose como comparación con la vida que lleva su hermana en San Francisco. Cate solía ser una mujer privilegiada del Upper East Side, pero ahora «ha perdido su cuenta en Prada, su tarjeta oro y su duplex en la Quinta Avenida», en palabras Woody Allen. En la maleta no se olvida de su Birkin, su 2.55 de Chanel, las chaquetas de alta costura y la joyería, aunque ya no asista a sus cenas con la jet de Manhattan. La diseñadora de vestuario Suzy Benziger ha conseguido retratar a una mujer conservadora y elegante gracias a las chaquetas de tweed, las perlas, las faldas lápiz y los toques dorados.
Suzy Benziger también trabajó con Woody Allen en Si la cosa funciona, Celebrity (con un vestuario genial), y Desmontando a Harry.
La película tiene muy buena pinta, ¡qué ganas de verla! Se estrena en USA el 26 de julio, a España llegará en noviembre.
